Did You Know?

Drafts are known for buried treasures, but this one might take the cake. Tom Glavine, the baseball player, was taken ahead of Brett Hull and Luc Robitaille during the 1984 draft.

The Los Angeles Kings picked Glavine (who has made a decent case for the Baseball Hall of Fame) with the 69th overall pick. Hull was taken by the Calgary Flames with the 117th pick and the Kings selected Robitaille with the 171st pick. Hull and Robitaille are locks for the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Other NHLers taken after Glavine include Kirk McLean (107) by the New Jersey Devils, Kjell Samuelsson (119) by the New York Rangers, Cliff Ronning (134) by the St. Louis Blues, Mike Peluso (190) by the Devils and Kevin Miller (202) by the Rangers.

The Caps' first pick that year? Kevin Hatcher, a wise selection.
