NHL Confirms Winter Classic Returning in New York or Chicago
NHL Deputy Commissioner Billy Daly was a guest on XM Radio's "Hockey This Morning" and stated that "it's safe to assume" that a Winter Classic will be held at Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field during the upcoming season.
Daly said that the 2008-09 schedule is slated to come out the day after baseball's all-star game (which corresponds to Wednesday, July 16) but that the league might have an announcement before then.
Yankee Stadium in the Bronx is being used for baseball for the last time this summer, while Wrigley Field on Chicago's North Side is still going strong. Ralph Wilson Stadium outside of Buffalo hosted the most recent Winter Classic on Jan. 1 (a shootout victory by the Pens over the Sabres).
